How Many? Winter Wondering

There are many things to count and many ways to think about the picture! Find as many ways as you can to answer the question, “How many?”

A winter scene shows an owl sitting on the gate of a fence, talking to a little mouse. The owl is holding on to the gate with its 2 feet. Each foot has 3 claws or talons. The gate is attached to 2 stone columns. Each columns is made with a lot of stones. The gate has 7 wooden boards, plus 2 more that make an X in the middle. One curved board and 3 straight ones make the frame for the gate. Big snowflakes are falling, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 of them. The tree has no more leaves, but it has a lot of branches to count.
  • What can you count in the picture? How many are there?
  • Show someone else what you counted and how you did it. Ask them to count something else in the picture and show you how they did it.

Challenge

Make a drawing showing something that you counted.
