Guess My Rule: Many Mittens

There are two circles, a red circle on the left and a blue circle on the right. They overlap in the middle. In the red circle are single mittens that are mostly green. In the blue circle are pairs of different-colored mittens attached by a string. In the middle are pairs of green mittens attached by a string. Outside the circle are single mittens of different colors.
  1. Some mittens belong in the red circle. Some mittens belong in the blue circle.
    Some mittens belong in both!
    • What is the same about all the mittens in the red circle? What is the rule to be in the red circle?
    • What is the same about all the mittens in the blue circle? What is the rule to be in the blue circle?
    • What is the same about all the mittens in the middle? What is the rule to be in both circles?
  2. Which mittens would go inside both circles? How do you know?
A red circle and a blue circle overlap. The red circle has green mittens. Some are single. Some are in pairs connected by strings. The blue circle has pairs of mittens connected by strings. Two pairs are green. One pair is blue. One pair is red. One pair is orange and purple. Where the circles overlap, the mittens are green and in pairs connected by strings. Some single mittens are outside the circles. They are gray, red, blue, and orange and purple.
  1. Draw a mitten that belongs in only the red circle.
  2. Draw another pair of mittens that belong in only the blue circle.
