Which One Doesn't Belong? Measuring Critters

Look at the set of four pictures. Decide which one doesn’t belong with the other three. Use math words to describe your thinking. There are many ways to think about each one!

A: A butterfly is measured with a 10-centimeter ruler. It starts at 2 cm and ends at 9 cm. B: Two grasshoppers are measured with a 10-centimeter ruler. One starts at 0 cm and ends at 5 cm. The other starts at 5 cm and ends at 10 cm. C: A beetle is measured with 5 Unifix cubes. It starts at the bottom of the first cube and stops at the top of the fourth cube. D: A caterpillar is measured with a 10-centimeter ruler. It starts at 0 and stops halfway between 7 and 8 cm.
