Math in Our World: Indoor Recess

7 rows of 6 cube puzzles: $3 each. 6 rows of 4 packages of clay: $2 each. 4 rows of 8 card game decks: $4 each. 3 stacks of 5 alphabet block sets: $5 each. 4 stacks of 5 race track sets: $10 each. 3 stacks of 6 paint sets: $6 each.

Mrs. David received $20 from the principal to buy indoor recess supplies. 

The store has several items available that would make for fun indoor recess activities.

  1. Use pictures, models, or numbers to show what is happening.
  2. What do you notice? What do you wonder?
  3. What math questions can you ask about this situation? Answer all the questions you can!
  • What are some things that Mrs. David should consider when thinking about spending the money?
  • What do you notice about the store displays? How can you tell how many of each item they carry?
  • Show your work to someone else, and explain your thinking. Did they understand?
  • Ask whether they have any other questions you can answer!
