Multiplicative Thinking

Dion the Dragon

Hello Fourth Grade Friends!

Did you know that you don't have to memorize every multiplication fact? If I forget a fact, I can use what I know to figure it out instead of shooting flames!

I always forget 7 × 6, but I know 2 × 6 = 12 and 5 × 6 = 30. Since 7 = 2 + 5, I can just add the two products of 2 × 6 and 5 × 6 together to figure our the answer: 7 × 6 = 42.

What multiplication problems are challenging for you?

What strategies do you like to use to solve challenging problems?

Number pieces 2 by 6, making 12. And number pieces 5 by 6 making 30. Total is 7 by 6.Your friend,
